We have been in a world where we understand that "statistics tell the story that you want to tell".
We've named our project Sta-Vera to bring some truth (vera) to the statistics that we are looking at, thinking about and hearing about in the news, in the financial markets and in our lives with friends and family referring to them.
How we decided to embark on this.
I've [Kurt] spent the majority of my work life dealing with numbers and data, usually to the benefit of who I was working for. I've always been fascinated with numbers and data and trying to devine what they say to me.
During a project that I did for the US Chamber of Commerce in DC, I started to work a lot with the data available on the BLS website. I came upon the idea to build out a data project around this data - with the end goal to provide a tool for small and growing businesses to use to help them run and grow their business.
I brought this idea to what I consider to be my kindred spirit, John DeFeo and we got to talking about this idea of starting an online data tool, with a lot of non-opinion-based assessments of how we see the world of data. Therefore the birth of Stavera. [You do have to say this with an Italian accent, which I've been doing in my head since we purchased the domain.]
Welcome to this ride -- we've got a really good vision for where things will get to and even if nobody ever reads what we put together, I know that we are going to have fun putting this puzzle together.
Meet the Team
The people behind Stavera, combined, have a very long history in the world of online media and publishing. Below is a brief on each of us.

Kurt's business High Peak Media helps online publishers grow their audience (largely thru SEO) and their revenue (with Lead Generation Strategies) with several large clients including the US Chamber of Commerce and Mansueto Ventures (Inc and FastCompany magazines).

John is the founder of Good, Cheap and Fast, an online shopping website that blends research and data science.
John has worked in publishing for more than 15 years, beginning his career as a designer at Viva Media (a video game publisher). After co-founding Debonair Magazine, John held content strategy and business intelligence roles at Hachette Filipacchi and The Street (a financial media company).
Most recently, John was the head of consumer insights for Purch (publisher of websites such as Tom's Guide, Space.com, Live Science and Laptop Mag). Today, John is on sabbatical to spend time with family and work on side projects such as this website.
As we begin to build out our base of content and put together some structures around which we are building this thing, join us for the ride by signing up for our newsletter. We won't spam you, we've outgrown that, but we will from time to time keep you abreast of what we are up to.
